Welcome to Photoreject, born out of my first attempts to enter my work in a gallery many years ago. If you read the title and are concerned if you are supposed to be here, fill out the brief, 200-page survey on page 72. Otherwise, please take a look around my blog posts of recent images of photography "tests" I am conducting as I branch out into slightly new photographic horizons. I will be explaining my thought processes behind the photographs and rambling on about this or that. Hope you enjoy!
This is a really clever play on environmental portraiture, brother. Just looking at it, without any context, all the components come really together well and create a memorable impression. Are you familiar with Arnold Newman? If not, check him out; he's one of the pioneers of this type of editorial portraiture. Yeah, he's the master. Just on a technical nicpicking note, the focus looks a little soft on the board game boxes fore and aft. Were you going for a narrow depth of field, or was that just a result of the assigned lighting conditions? The subject himself appears sharp and well lit, though. Respect, jeff
This seems a little coincidental having you mention the name Arnold Newman. The assignment for the class was to choose a portrait photographer and try to take a picture in a similar style. oddly enough, the photographer I chose was Arnold Newman.

That's hilarious!
Hey brian, I remembered to look at your photo website. I like this one! Uh, it really speaks to me, as we artists sometimes say.
