Welcome to Photoreject, born out of my first attempts to enter my work in a gallery many years ago. If you read the title and are concerned if you are supposed to be here, fill out the brief, 200-page survey on page 72. Otherwise, please take a look around my blog posts of recent images of photography "tests" I am conducting as I branch out into slightly new photographic horizons. I will be explaining my thought processes behind the photographs and rambling on about this or that. Hope you enjoy!
I didn't comment the first or second time I looked at these a while back, because they seemed to come out of left field (and still do based on what I've seen since). You aren't making it easy on us, being so erratic, moving from flower closeups, to expressionistic landscapes, to sunny portraits, pidgeons and then interiors. It's hard to get a beat on what you're about, know what I mean? A photographer ought to be totally omnivorous at the image capture stage, but when it comes time to show work to the public, they need to be more selective. That said, I do kind of dig this self portrait detour that you've taken. The second one from the top is really strong and odd enough to give one pause, which is the whole point, I guess. I like the focus pocus, the sickly street light, the angle, all the compositional elements are in effect. It's almost impossible to interpet as to thematic meaning, though, because of the lack of context or explanation. Care to share your thoughts? Ofcourse you can always plead the artist's right to obscurity, and maybe that's best. Now I'm rambling. Nevertheless, knowing that it's a self portrait is definately important to the reading, even if you just couldn't find a model that night. I'll stop there and leave it at this: It's a compelling image that evokes a mood and raises questions. Fair enough. Follow the muse and get an editor.
